A Harmonious Blend of Industrial & Scandi Elegance
At LTKI, we believe that every home should be a reflection of the people who live in it. The Ferntree Gully Project was a deeply personal renovation for our client, who had previously completed a kitchen renovation with us in her former home. Now, with her newly purchased forever home, she entrusted us once again to create a beautifully functional space tailored to her lifestyle.
This transformation balances industrial aesthetics with Scandinavian warmth, integrating thoughtful design solutions to enhance daily life.
A Kitchen Reimagined for Flow & Functionality
The original kitchen was impractical for everyday cooking, with three corner cabinets creating dead space and an island obstructing natural movement. We streamlined the layout to maximise accessibility, reducing unnecessary corner cabinets and introducing a bi-fold appliance garage to neatly house everyday essentials.
A peninsula island was designed to serve dual purposes—one half for meal prep with integrated drainer grooves, and the other as a breakfast bar for casual dining. The Ash White finish with woodgrain trims and slim pale green handles introduce a fresh Scandi aesthetic, while a splash window and skylight were incorporated to flood the space with natural light.
Seamlessly Designed Utility Spaces
A custom timber slat barn door leads to the utility area, reconfigured to enhance flow. By closing off the existing toilet room, we were able to create a more functional division between the laundry and family bathroom, allowing for added storage while maintaining a sleek, minimalist aesthetic.
The laundry features diamond-shaped tiles in a soft green hue, adding vibrancy while reinforcing the cohesive color palette found throughout the home. The bathroom transformation introduces Nordic Oak vanities paired with textured linear feature tiles, evoking a sense of calm. Thoughtful storage solutions include a four-bank drawer unit, a slide-out inner storage system, and a soft pendant light that enhances warmth and ambiance.
Innovative Storage & Custom Features
In the living room, an existing structural column posed a unique design challenge. Instead of working around it, we integrated a custom-built multi-purpose unit that cleverly disguises the pillar while serving as a glass display cabinet, an open shelving unit, and a TV stand—seamlessly dividing the space while maintaining visual flow.
A Sanctuary in the Master Suite
The walk-in robe was designed with ample hanging space, responding directly to the client’s needs, while a concealed sliding mirror enhances both storage and function.
In the ensuite, we echoed the family bathroom’s materials for consistency, featuring a curved vanity, a radius mirrored shaving cabinet, and a half-moon wall light that softens the compact space, transforming it into a private sanctuary. A black vertical heated towel rail adds a functional, industrial edge.
With a keen eye for materials, functionality, and aesthetic balance, this renovation brings together the best of industrial minimalism and Scandinavian softness, creating a home that is as practical as it is beautiful.
