The Metcalfe Project

The Metcalfe Project

The Metcalfe Homestead renovation unveils a captivating transformation by LTKI. This project, led by Rhianon, embraces the rich legacy of the 1800s property. This beautiful homestead, and its pastoral surroundings, delicately balances historical charm with contemporary family life.

The design for this project was heavily influenced by the architectural style of the home and its rural farm surroundings. The homeowners desired a seamless integration of modern conveniences while preserving the charm of their 1800s homestead, which has been in their family for over a century and operated as a sheep station throughout its history.

The original layout was reimagined, swapping the living and kitchen from opposite ends of the room, improving traffic flow and allowing an original fireplace to be uncovered. The farmhouse-style kitchen features shaker doors, decorative skirting boards, and capping, blending traditional aesthetics with a functional layout for modern living.

Considering the multi-generational and working nature of the home, careful attention was given to accommodate the family’s daily needs as well as occasional business use and hosting of farm visitors. The kitchen space showcases a stunning Falcon stove surrounded by a feature mantle with a concealed range hood and exposed original brick wall splashback, adding character and history to the space.

The addition of a walk-in pantry significantly increases storage capacity, while relocating the kitchen creates a designated space for cooking and eliminates unnecessary foot traffic. The mudroom and laundry areas were also enhanced with additional storage, featuring solid red gum benchtops sourced from the property and Caesarstone countertops for practicality.

In keeping with the traditional style, handmade subway tiles and brass accents were selected, seamlessly integrating with the home’s heritage. Thoughtful design and planning minimised challenges during the renovation process, resulting in more efficient and enjoyable daily tasks for the family.

Overall, the Metcalfe project honors the history of the home while breathing new life into its spaces, creating a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity that enriches the lives of its inhabitants.

Client Reviews

We were very impressed with their desire to achieve the best outcome, with the space available and how to use it in a more efficient way.

The finished result looks fantastic. It's very functional and fits in really well with the look of the rest of the house.

They were always on time. Attention to details, very courteous and professional. Rebecca's excellent designs, quality of products and services are second to none. The projects went very well. I'm extremely happy with my new bathroom, kitchen & laundry.

I took the recommendation to use LTKI. Not only did they work to schedule and on budget I also had the benefit of Rebecca Meyer's artistic design. I just let Rebecca do it all. Best decision I ever made. I won't ever bother trying to manage a home project again.

The team at LTKI did a terrific job on renovating our bathroom, kitchen and living areas of our large family home. Mark's designs and creativity were more than we could have imagined. Everyone associated with the project were very supportive and made what could of been stressful into a manageable and easy process. All the trades involved were very reliable, professional and easy to get along with. We are extremely happy with the final outcome and look forward to working with this awesome team on our next project.

After contacting Rex to try and get a fix for our builder installed kitchen. He came out, offered great advice, and directed us to a tradesman that fixed our problem. Even though this didn't result in work for LTKI took the time and effort to help us when no one else would.

An outstanding job. Only two hiccups First, when installing Qasair range hood, it was discovered that we had the wrong type for an induction stove top. Trouble was that the correct range hood was 30mm thicker. This required a complete replacement of the cupboards. Second, the induction cook top was put too far forward in the Corian bench top. Most of the bench tops had to be replaced. In both cases the problems were fixed at no expense to the client. Very impressed
